Review & Release Day Blitz for Alexa Riley’s Everything For Her

My Review

*** ARC kindly provided by Ardent Prose in exchange for an honest review. ***

I had several moments I wanted to DNF.  I didn’t like Miles at all.  I hoped again and again that I would get to a point where he would change my mind but unfortunately it never came.  I love alpha, possessive men in books but Miles was more a stalker to me.  Part of the story is about how he watched Mallory from afar and took care of her before it was time to claim her but the measures he took were just to creepy for me.  He’s to controlling, manipulative and obsessed.  I wanted to get her a restraining order against him at times.  I guess a little bit of the reason why I really dislike him is because I’m in an ugly divorce and my ex was a really awful controlling manipulator.  So I might be a little bit prejudiced.

Even though I didn’t like how Mallory did accept everything too easily I did like her.  She’s a strong woman and unbelievably forgiving and kind.   I also loved the chemistry between them.

I did like the writing and would love to read more but no more with stalkerish men.  This was my second Alexa Riley book and both had creepy men in it …  The first was Pulling her trigger.  Therefor I’m still doubting if I’ll read the second book in this series.  In one way I would love to read the story of Ryan and Paige but on the other hand I’m a little bit reluctant.   I have put it on my TBR and we’ll see…
So even though I didn’t like Miles, it was well written and kept me reading. Therefor I’m giving this book 3,25 stars.

USA TODAY bestselling author Alexa Riley’s first full-length novel shows just what happens when a strong, possessive man finds the woman of his dreams.

I’ll never forget the way she looked, so confident and sure of herself. I watched her from a distance. She wasn’t ready for me yet. I didn’t approach her and I didn’t disturb her, but I never once took my eyes off her.

Mallory Sullivan is ready to start her new life. After graduating at the top of her class, she’s landed one of the most coveted internships in the United States. Hard work and determination have gotten her to this moment of living the life she only dreamed of while growing up in foster care.

From the start, I knew that she would be my greatest achievement, so the day I let her go, I set down a path for her. A path to me.

She never expected Oz to be the greatest culmination of those dreams. But sometimes fate determines who you fall in love with. Who makes you lose control. Who owns your soul.

And then you realize it wasn’t fate at all…

I’ve wanted to care for and protect her since the first moment I saw her. I’ve constructed everything in our lives so that at the perfect moment, I could have her, could give her the life she deserves.

The time has come.

PREFACE
Miles

I’ve watched her since the beginning.
It’s funny, but I don’t really remember much before her. It’s as if I could split my life into two halves. Before her and after. I remember my life with my parents, and I remember getting into college, but it’s all gray before her. Until the day I saw her, there was no color. But once my eyes landed on her for the first time, it was like when Dorothy landed in Oz and she opened the door. The world went Technicolor, and she was my very own Glinda the Good Witch.
I was twenty-two years old the first time I saw her. She was seventeen and competing in a state-level high school math competition.
Yale University asked me to represent them as a student judge, and I nearly declined. The state of Connecticut is small but houses one of the greatest Ivy League colleges in the country. One that makes becoming a standout almost impossible. I was among the top one percent in my class as a senior at Yale, with a major in statistics.
The only reason I’d accepted the invitation was to play a part. Many expected me to follow in the footsteps of my father, and I wanted them to believe that, but my end goal was a little different than anyone knew. I was on the path of revenge, but playing a part would help me on that path. Rubbing shoulders with the same men my father did, even if it left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Agreeing to judge the competition was life-changing. The bitter taste in my mouth altered that day. A sweetness took over. I wanted it. Needed it.
I’ll never forget the way she looked, so confident and sure of herself. I watched her from a distance, like you would a lioness in the wild. I didn’t approach her and I didn’t disturb her, but I never once took my eyes off her.
I found out later she was being sponsored by her high school so that she could attend the competition. She had no family and was being raised in a group foster home, so her school funded the trip. She was smart, and they wanted to see her succeed, which she did.
I saw so much in her as she competed. She knew all the answers and was absolutely sure each time. She trusted her instincts, and they didn’t let her down. There was so much potential in her just waiting to be unleashed. I wanted to sit down and have her tell me everything, anything, as long as she talked to me.
She swept the competition and won first place in her division. I was strangely proud of her.
When she walked out of the hotel ballroom after the competition was over, I let her go. It was the hardest thing I’d ever had to do. But I knew that if I went after her too soon, or too fast, she would run. Not only was she too young for me, but something about her told me she was the kind of woman who came along once in ten thousand lifetimes.
This wasn’t to be rushed. It was to be savored.
I may hate my father, but I’ve learned from his mistakes. I’m going to use those mistakes for my own advantage. He’s smart but sloppy at the same time and it’s been showing. But I know if you want something, you work hard for it, plan out all the details to make it yours.
From the beginning, I knew that she would be my greatest achievement, so the day I let her go, I set down a path for her.
A path to me.
No one knows it’s been me behind the curtain, pulling the strings. I’ve constructed everything in our lives so that at the perfect moment, I could have her.
The time has come.

3,5 stars for “Deadliest Lies – 03 – Hit Man” By Michelle Mannon

** ARC kindly provided by the publisher St. Martin’s Press, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ***

hit-manAubrey is determined to use her knowledge to help the less fortunate in Mexico City. She used all her savings for her dream job. Because the company she was going to work with needs more money she tries to find someone for additional funds but brings herself in danger… Diego is a hit man and while trying to infiltrate he meets the stunning do-gooder Aubrey. He’s attracted to her but is determined not to give into his feelings. But their paths keep crossing … How long can you deny it? And can he keep Aubrey safe? Will he choose his job or her? Aubrey just ends up in one dangerous situation after the other…

This was a wonderful action filled romance. It took me some time to start liking Diego but in the end I did.

What bothered me a little bit is the many Spanish words en sentences in the book. There are also a little bit to much coincidental encounters between Audrey and Diego…

Overall I liked this book and give it 3,5 stars.

3,5 stars for “Only Pleasure – 10 – Bound Hearts” by Lora Leigh

There are 3 installments for this book and I loved them all.

*** ARC kindly provided by the publisher St. Martin’s Press, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ***

INSTALLMENT ONE

only-pleasure-book-1About 7 months ago I read my first Lora Leigh book. I liked Guilty Pleasure, book 11 in this Bound Hearts series but I loved this book which is book 10 in the series.

Two years ago Kia’s ex-husband tried to force her into a menage. Knowing her marriage had been a lie, the humiliation changed her. Even when she was married she was attracted to Chase but Chase has been hurt himself. He learned that he’s no relationship material. Both think ‘Only Pleasure’ will be enough but is it??

What I loved in this book is that we get more POV’s but unfortunately it isn’t always clear directly whose POV is being told.

I also really loved Khalid and if I hadn’t read it yet I would definitely want to read his book next.

I read this book in 3 installments. This was the first one and I immediately dived into the next one

INSTALLMENT TWO

only-pleasure-book-2This was the second installment for book 10 in the Bound Hearts series.

Chase and Kia both thought that just the pleasure would be enough. Kia wants more and so does Chase but he fights his feelings. Chase hasn’t let himself get close to anyone lately. Do you keep on fighting for someone denying his feelings or do you let them go. Going doesn’t go easily. Let’s hope Chase will give into his feelings in time…

This book was H.O.T. There were some very steamy scenes in it and I loved the chemistry between them!

I’m ready for installment three and that HEA they both deserve

INSTALLMENT THREE

only-pleasure-book-3*** ARC kindly provided by the publisher St. Martin’s Press, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ***

With danger lurking they finally both acknowledge their feelings but Chase hasn’t yet expressed his love. Kia however still needs to learn to trust Chase completely.

I loved this final installment but since I’m not a big fan of insta love it kind off went a little bit too fast for me.

But I really did enjoy it, the men are deliciously alpha so I look forward to read more books in this series.

I already read the next book in this series earlier and I loved that one a little bit more. If I hadn’t read it yet I would certainly do so now because the end of this book is a small prologue to book 11 with Khalid’s story.

3,5 stars for “Exodus End – 02 – Outsider”

*** ARC kindly provided by the publisher Vulpine Press, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ***

I have read the first 5 books in the Sinners on Tour series and the first 8 in the One Night with Sole Regret series. I really loved reading the first book on Reagan, Trey and Ethan “Double Time” in the Sinners on Tour series so I was glad that there was another one for them…

As their story continues in this book we get to meet all those other wonderful characters from the Sinners again and it was great to catch up with them again. I loved reading this book but there were a few things I didn’t like this time. To start with the book was a little bit too long but the Epilogue made up for that. I also didn’t like Reagan as much as I liked her in the first book and I have no idea why maybe because she was more focussed on herself or too insecure… I don’t know! I did really like Ethan and of course LOVED Trey! But still I enjoyed reading this one and give it 3.5 stars.

I didn’t read the first book in this Exodus End series yet but it’s waiting on my Kindle. After reading about Toni and Logan in this book I can’t wait to read their story… And of course I also can’t wait for the other books especially Dare’s

3,5 stars for “Jericho Brotherhood – 02 – Release” by Jade Chandler

*** ARC kindly provided by the publisher Carina Press, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ***

release-jade-chandlerThis is a sweet romance with a kinky side about a hot, tattooing biker with a need for pain and his sweet girl finding it difficult to become his property when she doesn’t have a good history with her abusive father. Will Avery’s love for Rock be strong enough to become a part of the MC. Can she handle his need for pain?

I prefer my MC books a little bit darker and hotter but this still was a wonderful well written read. What I missed was an epilogue. The story ends rather abrupt. What happened to her father? I hope we’ll read more about Rock and his Almita in the next book. Deny, Book 3 of the Jericho Brotherhood is planned for December 2016. Looking forward to this one. Will it be Jericho’s book? Or Marc?

3.5 stars for Everything Stolen by Sophie Scarlet

*** ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review ***

Everything stolen.jpgLast year I got the opportunity to read the Absolution series by this wonderful new author. When I got the chance to read her new book “Everything Stolen
” I didn’t have to think about it…

What do you do when the love of your life disappears? Everybody important in your life has left you. You’re pregnant and feel alone… Another man treats you wonderful and you fall in love. Your husband is caring and always THERE. Your life feels perfect but then the love of your life reappears… I wouldn’t know what to do in such a situation!! Sylvie neither…

Right from the start I wanted Jeremy and Sylvie back together and I loved reading their story. It took some time for them to get reunited but a nice long epilogue made up for the waiting 😉 I’m giving this well written book 3,5 stars.

3,5 stars for “Fusion – 02 – Close to You” by Kristen Proby

*** ARC kindly provided by the publisher William Morrow Paperbacks, via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. ***

Close to YouAbout half a year ago I read the first book in this series… “Listen to me” gave us the story of Addie and Jake and after finishing I wanted to read more about the other 4 amazing women in their group of friends.

This second book gives us Cami’s story. Cami has always loved 1 man. Her best friend’s brother Landon. She has broken off her loveless marriage and makes it her mission now to find a good girl for her ex. Who does that? It was fun to read about in the book. What she didn’t know is that Landon loved her too but she was too young. Landon has been a Navy pilot for the last 10 years with occasional short visits home. After Cami got married he stopped writting her. An accident forced him to leave the navy. Now he is home again. But is it home or is the navy home? What about their childhood feelings? How do you handle an evil cat that forces himself in your house (I’m typing this with a tiny black/white kitten on my lap) 😉

This was another fun and light romance without much drama. I’m not a too big fan of insta love but it worked for this book.

Looking forward to the next book which will give us Kat’s story. Yay!

3,5 stars for ‘Everything I left unsaid – 03 – Burn down the night’ by Molly O’Keefe

*** ARC kindly provided by the publisher Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept , via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ***

Burn down the nightThis story is about a man being betrayed by his MC (this is not an MC book), being kidnapped by the crazy woman trying to blow up a strip club. Joan has escaped a criminal cult leader 6 months ago but before she could save her sister they were gone. Can Max help her? Will he help her? What will they do when they feel something more could be possible between them… It isn’t either-or anymore.

I liked the story but unfortunately I’m not a big fan of insta-love and even though they fight their feelings a little it all goes to fast for me. I also didn’t immediately like Max. He seemed like a man who wouldn’t mind hurting a woman. Joan seemed cold and detached but inside was a caring woman who would do anything to save her sister. But the chemistry is hot…

Overall I did like the story and give it 3.5 stars. Maybe I would have loved it more if I would have read the 2 previous books…

3,5 stars for “Bad Bitch – 02 – Hardass” by Christina Saunders

*** ARC kindly provided by the publisher St. Martin’s Press, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review. ***

HardassThis was the first book I read from Christina Saunders … I thought 😉 I already read 2 of her books written with the pseudonym Celia Aaron. I loved those books too and still have to read the third in the Acquisition series. .

This was an easy, fun, entertaining read with wonderful characters as well as a great gay best friend … I want one myself! Besides a romance there is a suspenseful story about two attorneys defending a man accused of being a serial killer… Wash tries to keep their relationship professional but hey, guess what … He fails 😉 You could feel their chemistry.

I give this book 3,5 stars and would love to read the remaining books in this series…

I wouldn’t have minded a bigger epilogue.

3+ stars for “Lovegame by Tracy Wolff”

*** ARC kindly provided by the publisher Random House Publishing Group – Loveswept, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review. ***

lovegameVeronica — Betrayal. Lots of betrayal by people who are supposed to be there for you at a very young age! Will you ever manage to live a normal life after all that. What if the man for which you start to get feelings, strong feelings, who makes you feel great, betrays you too? Can you handle that final blow?

Ian — The need to prove to yourself that you are not like him. You’re different. Will you find out in time or will your quest hurt the one woman you want?

I loved this well written romance with a side of thriller. I could feel their chemistry right from the start and love both main characters. Until almost the end I had no clue who the ‘bad guy’ was so I was really surprised.

Something I’m not very fond of is insta-love but it didn’t feel that wrong in this book.

I also read The first book of the Ethan Frost series by this author and loved it. This story with a bumpy road was my second and I look forward to read more… This book gets 3,5 stars
